The Jacksonville Jaguars draft Jalen Ramsey

The Jacksonville Jaguars have drafted Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey with the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

After an All-American career in Tallahassee, Ramsey joins Jameis Winston as back-to-back Top-5 picks for the Florida State program. Ramsey also becomes the highest drafted defensive back since Patrick Peterson was taken with the fifth overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2011 NFL Draft.

The Jaguars signed Prince Amukamara in free agency but lost Aaron Colvin to a four game suspension. With Amukamara, Davon House, and Dwayne Gratz as established veterans, the Jaguars can afford to be flexible in their use of Ramsey. They also signed safety Tashaun Gipson in free agency and Jonathan Cyprien is a solid player as well, so the need for Ramsey at safety is diminished. In his rookie year, look for the Jaguars to use Ramsey in a variety of different roles. He can play outside cornerback, nickel cornerback, blitz off of the edge and even line up as linebacker next to former Florida State teammate Telvin Smith in certain defensive packages.
