Stakes Are High as FSU faces Clemson

Jeremy Esbrandt

Florida State and Clemson with the ACC title on the line.

It seems like we have heard this story before…

After Dylan Busby hit a walk-off single to take down Miami, the Seminoles have a quick turnaround as they face Clemson Sunday morning at 10AM.

Florida State will likely throw Jim (6-1 1.38ERA) or Ed Voyles (1-1 2.70ERA) and while Mike Compton (5-3 4.42ERA) has a chance to start, I would assume that he is still shut down for the forseeable future. Clemson’s starter is unknown because longman Pat Krall (10-1 1.33ERA) has pitched in three consecutive games and the other three starters have started this weekend. My educated guess would be that Clemson either goes to Clate Schmidt (8-4 4.32ERA) or Jake Higginbotham (3-0 4.59ERA).

The Seminoles are 1-2 against Clemson this season losing the only series against them in South Carolina.

Florida State’s run during the ACC Tournament has brought them back into the national seed conversation. The Seminoles would have to win the ACC title tomorrow morning by D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers and Aaron Fitt think that the winner of the title game have a good argument for a national seed.

Before Florida State went on a cold streak to end the season they were a consensus top 5 team in the country and seemingly a lock to secure a national seed. Clemson has Golden Spikes hopeful and probable Freshman of the Year Seth Beer leading the team. Florida State has been led by their pitching in the ACC Tournament thanks to solid outings by Drew Carlton and Cole Sands and an absolutely dominant outing by Tyler Holton who has had the Hurricanes number in the two starts against them this season.

Now it will come down to, as it so often does in football, the Seminoles versus the Tigers.
