Bryan Trimble: Playing for Florida State is a dream come true

Bryan Trimble became the first member of Florida State’s 2017 recruiting class when he committed on Jun. 19, 2016. Trimble is a three star recruit out of Wichita, Kansas. He played at Sunrise Christian Academy.

Trimble will look to make an instant impact after the departures of XRM and Dwayne Bacon. He will primarily play the shooting guard position at the next level. He can shoot from deep, but he’s still working on his consistency, and wants to make an impact on defense.

Check out our interview below! The first in a series of interviews that we’ll be conducting with all of the 2017 Florida State Men’s Basketball signees.

NoleGameday: Multiple recruiting networks rank you as a three star and as one of the best, if not the top, player in Kansas. What went into your decision to sign with Florida State?

Bryan Trimble:”It came down to who cared the most about me as a person and not just about basketball. It came down to family, when I took my visit, not only did they make me feel at home, they made my mom feel welcome. They made sure I was good academically. They cared about more than basketball and understood that basketball is more than just basketball.”

NoleGameday: There’s definitely a brotherhood type feel around this program.

Trimble: “For sure. Since day one I haven’t regretted my decision. I have good relations with some of the guys on the team now and I stay in contact with pretty much all of them. And we have good conversations.”

Trimble: “All of the commits, we talk almost every day honestly. We’re all in a group chat and we’re ready to get down there and get to work.”

NoleGameday: Who was the runner-up in your recruitment?

Trimble: “I had a real good relationship with Oklahoma State (Brad Underwood) coach, I had a real good relationship with Larry Brown when he was at SMU but he left, and I had a good relationship with Michigan’s coach (John Beilein). It would’ve been between those three.”

NoleGameday: I couldn’t find a ton of information on your high school career. I did find something that said you graduated in 2016? So where’d you play this season?

Trimble: “I was at Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita, Kansas. I had a pretty good season. I was averaging 20-25 points, 6-7 rebounds, like 2-3 assists. I finished strong.”

NoleGameday: Florida State returns seven players next season. How excited are you to get with this team and start building something special?

Trimble: “It’s big, it’s like the dream come true. What teenage boy don’t want to play in the ACC. Just being around the people, I know the people I’m going to be around, the atmosphere and the environment.”

NoleGameday: FSU has a talented backcourt. What do you feel like you’ll be able to bring to the table?

Trimble: “I’m a high level shooter and one thing I talk to Coach Gates about is my ability to use the ball screen. I’m going to sit down on defense, full court, that’s not going to be a problem at all.”

NoleGameday: What has been your most memorable moment in your career so far?

Trimble: “The change around. Where I came from, for me to go play with MOKAN basically just turned my whole life around. Gave me an opportunity that I took advantage of and we eventually ended up winning the Peach Jam. The whole MOKAN family, the organization, the owner, I can’t thank them enough.”

NoleGameday: What kinds of things are you working on refining before you get to Florida State?

Trimble: “The biggest things I’m working on with my trainer is just finishing around the rim and using my athleticism. Scoring, less dribbling, using less dribbles to score, stuff that’s big in college.”

NoleGameday: What will you be studying at FSU?

Trimble: “I’m going into the business school.”

NoleGameday: Do you have any goals or things you want to achieve during your freshman season?

Trimble: “Not necessarily, not yet. I just want to be apart of it and do whatever I gotta do for us to win. Ask me in a couple of months and I can give you some goals, but right now that’s it.”
