Game Preview: Florida State vs Florida

Finally, the prime time noon match-up that we’ve all waited for. I’ll start by previewing both offenses for this game:

Okay, now that we got that out of the way I hope you like 3 and outs and punting. While both defenses have their holes and can be exposed, I don’t have a lot of faith in either offense. Both teams have young quarterbacks in UF’s Felipe Franks and FSU’s James Blackman. The pair of young quarterbacks have shown flashes of brilliance this season, but have also struggled at times. The key to this game will be which offensive line can open up holes for the run game. UF has a nice runningback duo in Lamical Perine and Mark Thompson. The ‘Noles’ have a even better pair of tailbacks in Jacques Patrick and Cam Akers. Akers has the big play ability to change a game on one carry. He is as good as advertised and will be scary for years to come. Akers’ best game of his short career came against a lackluster Syracuse defense, and has shown flashes of what he can do in the big games. I think Florida will have a hard time slowing down Akers come Saturday. Georgia’s Sony Michel, Nick Chubb, and the rest of the UGA running stable ripped apart this Gators’ defense for a few long touchdown runs when the two faced in Jacksonville. I see the ‘Noles doing the exact same thing. If Jacques Patrick can wear down the UF defense, watch out. Akers only needs one play to get it in the end zone. I don’t think Florida’s offense is going to find much success against this FSU defense. Derwin James, most likely playing in his last game against the Gators, should have a field day against an average UF wide receiving core. FSU defensive ends Brian Burns and Josh Sweat are two to keep an eye on in this game as well. I think FSU will when this game pretty easily, and I’ll take the ‘Noles 27-10 over the Gators. Hope everyone enjoys the in state rivalry, even if the game belongs on Cartoon Network.
