FSU Early Signing Period Targets

It’s time to see if Willie Taggart’s big recruiting weekend paid off. Upwards of ten recruits that Florida State has their eyes on will be inking their letters of intent during the early signing period. The period will last from Wednesday at 7 a.m. to midnight on Friday.

These three days have the ability to make or break the Seminoles class. There are some pretty important targets here that this staff would hate to miss on.

– James Cook, 4* Running Back

Info: Cook is committed to Georgia but has FSU back on his mind after visiting Tallahassee this weekend. However, it seems unlikely that Taggart will be able to flip him in such a short time period.

UPDATE 9:26 AM: As of this hour, expect Cook to sign with Georgia.

UPDATE: 10:38 AM: James Cook announces his decision to sign with Georgia. This one was expected. Taggart will now turn his focus to former commit Jashaun Corbin.

Signing time: Wednesday, 10 a.m.

– Emory Jones, 4* Quarterback

Info: Jones is committed to Ohio State but no one expects him to sign with the Buckeyes. He visited both Florida and Florida State this weekend, and top analysts have them as the frontrunners. Jones had a great meeting with Taggart on Sunday which could be in the difference in his decision. He would be the perfect fit in the Gulf Coast offense that Taggart wants to install.

Signing time: Wednesday, 11:30 a.m.

UPDATE 10:23 AM: Still hearing rumblings that Jones is leaning towards choosing the Noles. He talked with the staff this morning. Interestingly, there’s been a report out of Gainesville that Jones has told the Florida staff that he’ll be signing with FSU. Take it for what it’s worth but we’ll know for sure soon.

UPDATE: Jones picks Florida.

– Rosendo Louis, 3* Linebacker

Info: It’s sounding like Louis torn between Florida State and South Carolina after a trip to Columbia last weekend. He’s also a little flustered by the coaching change but has been visited and also talked to by the staff. Louis might push his decision back, it’s a wait and see thing at this point.

Signing time: Wednesday, 11:45 a.m.

UPDATE 10 AM: It looks like Louis is going to go ahead and make his decision today. This is interesting, especially since FSU added Raymond Woodie to their coaching staff yesterday. Louis and FSU’s coaches have been in contact but this one is a toss-up after his visit to South Carolina.

UPDATE 11:55 AM: Louis was spotted in FSU attire this morning at his high school. That could bode well for the Seminoles.

UPDATE 12:35 PM: Louis flips to South Carolina.

– Michael Penix, 3* Quarterback

Info: Penix will likely wait to see what Jones does before making his final decision. The schools in the running for his services are the Noles, USF, and Indiana. If Jones chooses FSU, Penix will probably choose Indiana.

Signing time: Wednesday, 1 p.m.

UPDATE: Penix signs with Indiana.

– Christian Armstrong, 3* Offensive Line

Info: FSU was worried that Georgia could get back into this one after the coaching change but they don’t need to worry anymore. Armstrong shut down his recruitment after visiting Tallahassee over the weekend. He’ll be a nice addition to the offensive line.

UPDATE 9:26 AM: Armstrong has faxed in his Letter of Intent. It’ll be official after his ceremony.

Signing time: Wednesday, 1 p.m.

– Amari Gainer, 4* Linebacker

Info: Gainer is Florida State’s bell cow in this recruiting cycle. The legacy recruit has done a more than ample job of recruiting top prospects to campus. He’s one of the most talented recruits around who should see the field early in his career.

Signing time: Wednesday, 2 p.m.

UPDATE 3:30 PM: Gainer has signed his letter of intent with Florida State. How about that commitment video?

– Robert Cooper, 4* Defensive Tackle

Info: Cooper decided to shut down his recruitment earlier this week. He also visited Tallahassee over the weekend and was impressed by Taggart. Cooper is one of the top interior defensive linemen in the country.

Signing time: Wednesday, 7 p.m.

UPDATE 9:26 AM: Cooper’s letter of intent has been faxed in. He’s officially signed and will have his signing ceremony later tonight.

– Jaiden Woodbey, 5* Safety

Info: Woodbey wasn’t even on FSU’s radar until Taggart came to town. The previous staff elected not to even offer him, despite Woodbey verbalizing that the Noles were his dream offer. Now that he’s got it, expect Woodbey to make his dreams reality.

Signing time: Wednesday, 8:30 p.m.

UPDATE 12:51 PM: We’re still hearing positive vibes towards FSU out of Woodbey’s camp. He’s expected to become a Seminole later tonight. Stay tuned.

UPDATE 7:51 PM: Crystal balls are still rolling in for Woodbey to the Seminoles. He’d be Taggart’s first real commitment at Florida State.

UPDATE 10:29 PM: Woodbey flips to Florida State. What a way to end the day.

– Isaiah Bolden, 4* Cornerback

Info: Bolden decommitted from Oregon shortly after Taggart became FSU’s coach. He’s expected to become a Nole unless he has a last-minute change of heart.

Signing time: Friday, 1 p.m.

UPDATE Thursday 11:43 AM: The word of mouth has still been consistently Bolden to FSU. His instate ties and relationship with Taggart are expected to be too much for Oregon to overcome.

UPDATE Friday 4:25: As expected, Bolden signs with Florida State after grabbing a `Nole visor out of an Oregon backpack.

– Asante Samuel, 4* Cornerback

Info: This one has come to a battle between FSU and Miami. Samuel is having a tough time deciding between the two but his decision may have been made slightly easier after his visit to Tallahassee over the weekend. He’s another prospect who could push his signing back to February.

Signing time: Not set

UPDATE Friday 4:25: Samuel has signed his letter on intent with Florida State. He’ll be a great pure-cover corner addition to the roster.

– Anthony Lytton, 4* Cornerback

Info: Lytton was visited by Taggart earlier last week and seems to still be set on signing with FSU. However, he hasn’t announced if he’ll sign during the early period or if he’ll wait until February.

Signing time: Not set

UPDATE Thursday 11:43 AM: Lytton reportedly pushed back his announcement until February. He’s currently locked in as a `Nole but has expressed a desire to sign with his teammates on NSD.

UPDATE Thursday 12:51 PM: Rivals is reporting that Lytton signed his letter of intent and is just waiting to send it in. We’ll see if that ends up happening.

UPDATE Friday 4:25: Lytton has also signed to FSU. He decided to go ahead and do it now instead of waiting until February. This DB class is epic.
