Expectations for Akeem Dent and Travis Jay in 2019

Defensive backs Akeem Dent and Travis Jay are both officially committed to playing Florida State Football this upcoming season. With Akeem Dent already enrolled, and Travis Jay making it known he will sign on National Signing Day, February 6th. We are expecting both to make an immediate impact this season.

Early enrollee five-star cornerback Akeem Dent coming out of Palm Beach Central High School has the potential to make an immediate impact this year. Dent’s senior season at Palm Beach Central was quite impressive. Last season he had 39 solo tackles, 28 assisted tackles, 14 pass deflections, and one interception. Don’t be surprised if Dent comes in and immediately sees a lot of time on the field. The 6-foot-1 170-pound corner is a solid athlete who shines in man coverage and has a tendency to recognize the offensive play call very quickly. With Akeem Dent here for the spring semester, he’ll have the opportunity to prove himself during Spring Football and showcase his ability in the Spring Game on April 6th.

Last Friday, four-star cornerback Travis Jay announced on Twitter that he is officially done speaking with other programs and will be playing at Florida State next season. Although Jay didn’t sign during the early signing period, he has made it clear that we will definitely see him here in the Fall. Jay is a 6-foot-1 185-pound prospect who has the ability to play both safety and cornerback while at Florida State. His large frame and athleticism make him scary when rushing the quarterback or playing on the perimeter. Last season at Madison County High School, Jay had 33 solo tackles, 11 assisted tackles, 15 pass deflections, and four interceptions. Even though Jay isn’t here this Spring, we fully expect to see Jay playing in 2019.

The secondary at Florida State could be very interesting in 2019. Fans are certainly looking forward to what these two top recruits can bring to the table this coming season.
