Florida State to Open Basketball Seaon With Rivals Gators

For the first time since the 2001 season, the Florida State basketball team will open their season against the University of Florida. The game will mark just the sixth time the Seminoles have opened their season with the Gators.

“Anytime Florida State plays Florida it’s a big game,” said Seminole Head Coach Leonard Hamilton. “This is a game our players and our fans look forward to each year. To schedule our game against the Gators as the season opener for both teams makes it even more special because it’s the first time fans of both teams will have the chance to see their team play.”

The ‘Noles have been dominant in the rivalry as of late winning each of the previous four meetings. Last season, FSU dominated the fifth-ranked Gators on their home court leaving with a 17 point victory. Terrance Mann led the way for the Seminoles with a 25 point and eight rebound effort. Phil Cofer added 10 points and 12 rebounds on the night. Cofer was recently granted a fifth year of eligibility and has the unique opportunity of leaving Florida State with five wins over the rival Gators.

Florida State will look to ride the momentum of last seasons Elite Eight appearance to a fourth straight NCAA Tournament. There are big expectations for the 2018-2019 season as FSU is ranked inside the top 20 of several preseason polls.
