Jameis Winston named dark horse candidate for NFL MVP

Former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is entering his third season at the helm of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Winston threw for 4090 yards with 28 touchdowns and 18 interceptions last season. He’s had a mostly porous receiver core during his time in Tampa Bay. Winston’s top receiver has been Mike Evans over his first two years in the league, and not much else.

However, the Buccaneers made some additions to their receiving core over the offseason. Tampa Bay signed DeSean Jackson in free agency. Jackson instantly adds a home-run threat to the Bucs offense. They also drafted OJ Howard and Chris Godwin during the 2017 NFL Draft. Howard and Godwin have both earned consistent playing time during the preseason.

Senior NFL Writer for Fox Sports, Peter Schrager, believes Winston will be an MVP candidate. The additional weapons and natural progression from the young quarterback should help push Tampa Bay into the playoffs for the first time since 2007.
