Coming into this year Willie Taggart and his staff knew locking down the state of Florida in recruiting was crucial for the future of the program. That being said, not many schools in the country have been on the trail (nationally and in-state) as hard as Florida State and it is starting to show. In which on Tuesday yielded a huge in-state commitment from 2019 ATH Travis Jay.

Travis Jay, a 2019 athlete hailing from Madison County High School committed to the Noles before he and mother even walked off campus Tuesday evening. Jay a 6,1’ 180 pound ATH started to see his recruitment take off after landing offers from multiple Power 5 schools early into the year. Once Taggart took over the job at FSU, the staff labeled Jay as one of the Noles top 2019 targets. Playing a crucial role to landing Jay was the fact that Madison High is only a little over an hour from Tallahassee. That being said; this was the junior’s 3rd visit to FSU since November and second within a month after attending Taggart’s first Junior Day in mid February.

The junior who’s currently rated as a 3* is a highly underrated recruit and shows huge upside to his game. His traits show signs of superior ability to change direction for a prospect with his size and length. To add to that he shows proper press technique plus ball skills that projects big time development at the next level. He is labeled as an ATH on most recruiting platforms but the FSU staff feels he’s a great fit at DB or even Safety in Coach Barnett’s cover 4 scheme.

After Travis Jay’s commitment Tuesday, Tribe19 is currently 11th in the 247 Composite team rankings; with the class being lead by the nation’s #1 Db and 5* Akeem Dent. Expect this new staff to keep working on relationships with players and getting them on campus in order to sign a full class of 25+ guys this upcoming year.

With that being said FSU will be hosting the nation’s #1 prospect Kayvon Thibodeaux this weekend. They also penciled in a visit with top QB target Sam Howell as well as having top RB prospect 5* Trey Sanders making plans to meet the new staff in the near future. The recruiting trail is hot for FSU; so given the past records of Taggart’s previous recruiting classes expect big things out of this staff & the upcoming 2019 recruiting cycle.
