No. 1 Kicker talks commitment to Florida State

It seems as if the 2016 recruiting class for Florida State is getting prettier and more loaded every week during the off season with top athletes around the nation committing to the Seminoles. Logan Tyler added his own fuel to the “Tribe16” fire with his commitment to Florida State during their Kohl’s Kicking Camp hosted by Florida State in Tallahassee, FL on June 6.

Logan Tyler is currently ranked the No. 1 kicker in the nation and No. 6 punter per Kohl’s Kicking Ratings. Tyler is 6-foot-0 inches tall, 190lbs and from Nixa (MO). Nole Gameday caught up with Logan about his commitment with the ‘Noles and what attracted him to Tallahassee 800 miles away from his hometown.

Logan Tyler and Jimbo Fisher after announced commitment to Florida State.

Tyler explained  that the Florida State football program is filled with top quality talent and that it helped a lot with his commitment. “Just the quality of the guys they recruit and that they have there,  Tyler said. He also mentioned the coaching staff’s role in his commitment too. “Coach Jay Graham and Coach Fisher are two of the most down to earth and straight forward coaches I’ve  ever met.”

A kicker with 1,000 Rushing Yards?  Tyler is not your average kicker. Tyler lead his high school team to the MSHSAA 5A state championship as a Junior. He also played OLB and SS while receiving 2nd Team All State Athlete honors. “I had over 1,000 yards rushing and 13 TD’s which two were pick-6’s. I’ll play QB and FS this year.” logantyler4

Leg strength is not a question for the Missouri native. Watch below as he kicks a 75-yard field goal. “I was having a really good day and just kept hitting my field goals sweet.”

“I had to put a little more into that one, but still hit it sweet.” When asked if he was training to strengthen his leg even more to hit 75+ yard field goals, he said he just wants to be consistent from 45-50 yards. After all, that is what usually wins ball games.

2016 kicker Ricky Aguayo (#3 K), brother of Roberto Aguayo, committed to FSU on the same day as Logan Tyler. If both stick, competition will play a huge role in the specialist group in 2016. Tyler says his commitment with the ‘Noles is strong, “Oh yes, I am 110 percent committed to FSU.”
