‘Noles in the NFL: Week 10

Just as if it could not get any worse for Seminole Fans, former BCS National Champion and Super Bowl winning DB Ronald Darby will be out for the remainder of the 2018 season after suffering a torn ACL in a seven-point loss to Dallas. Darby finished the game with five solo tackles and will become the fifth Eagle’s starter to end up on the Injured Reserve this season.

For fellow teammate and also former ‘Nole, DT Timmy Jernigan returned to practice this week but has yet to be activated to the 53 man roster. Nigel Bradham however, did his thing this week as he recorded a team-leading 10 tackles this week, eight of which were solo.

I am trying to keep things on a more positive note here, although if it wasn’t for Derwin James, Telvin Smith, or Vince Williams there wouldn’t be too much to throw around this week. James keeps gaining praise across the league as he recorded nine tackles (five solos) and one pass defended. james is doing literally everything Gus Bradley thought he would and some more. According to Pro Football Focus, the rookie sensation has registered pressure on the QB on over a third of the plays he’s used in a blitz package and just recently broke the NFL record for the most sacks by a rookie DB. And that’s not to mention it is only week 10.

Vince Williams, on the other hand, was an FSU linebacker that had himself a night. The sixth-year veteran had one of the best games of his career last week on Thursday Night Football. In the midst of a dominant 52-21 victory, Williams recorded four tackles (three solos), one sack, a TFL, and even one pass defended. All of that to only be supplemented by a pick-six against Carolina’s Cam Newton which jump-started a night of atrocities for Ron Rivera and this NFC South squad. Where’s the turnover bag when you actually need it….

Telvin Smith, in my opinion, has solidified his right to be called Jacksonville’s most consistent defensive player, in 2018 at least. This year has been one to forget, and even Jalen Ramsey will tell you that. For Telvin Smith, however, he’s taking it one week at a time and he continues to add to that last weekend in a devastating 29-26 loss to the Colts.

Smith once again led the team in tackles with eight in total (six solos) with one pass defended, and even nabbed an interception against Andrew Luck who had 285 yards on the day with three touchdowns, all of which came in the first half.

To keep the ball rolling, WR Auden Tate was promoted to the active roster this week, yet he failed to record any stats after he was unable to get a reception during his only target of the day. Rashad Greene once again saw some action, however, his lone catch for 11 yards was followed by a dreaded turnover on Jacksonville’s last drive of the game. Now I will leave it up to the readers to determine whether it was actually a fumble or not.

Dolphins TE Nick O’Leary got himself a reception for a total of five yards despite his primary role in both pass and run protection. Nevertheless and last but not least, the beloved Lamarcus Joyner recorded seven tackles (four solos) in a 36-31 victory that moved the Rams to 9-1 on the season.
