Phil Cofer hints at possible return to FSU on Instagram

It’s been just eight days since Florida State fell in the Elite Eight to Michigan. It certainly feels like it’s been a lot longer. Already, the offseason has delivered some adversity to the Seminoles.

Leonard Hamilton expected to return 11-12 players in 2018. Phil Cofer and Braian Angola were the only seniors on the roster last season and none of the other players were expected to go pro.

However, CJ Walker announced his intentions to transfer last week seemingly out of the blue. Walker started the entirety of his sophomore season when he was healthy but he must have heard the footsteps behind him after Trent Forrest’s breakout performance in the NCAA Tournament. The `Noles are already scouring the Grad Transfer market and recruiting trail for his replacement.

Now, a bit of good news may be heading FSU’s way. Despite being a senior, Cofer missed the majority of his sophomore year with an ankle injury. The plan for Hamilton and his staff was always to apply for a waiver that would allow Cofer to play in 2018.

The Fayetteville native hinted at his return with a post on Instagram. After never averaging more than 6.9 points per game in his first three seasons, Cofer averaged 12.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in 2017. His return would give Florida State one of the top returning frontcourts in the country next season. Christ Koumadje, Mfiondi Kabengele, and Ike Obiagu will all be back.

Back soon for that !
