“Another one. -DJ Khaled” -Mike Martin Jr.

I no longer have ways to describe it besides, Mike Martin Jr. is on ******* fire. For the second time in less than a month, the ‘Noles have gone a 3-day streak of commits. FSU picked up its 3rd commit in as many days with the commitment of 2022 prospect Ben Barrett. Barrett is the 7th addition to an absolutely loaded 2022 class. This class is easily one of the tops in the nation and the coaches and players are starting to build close relationships. The earlier a coach and fellow commit make relationships, the more likely these guys are to end up on campus.

Barrett is an Orlando native and is coming off a varsity season as a freshman for the First Academy. Ben plays for travel program Power Baseball, the same program that recent commit, Najer Victor, comes from. The Orlando native has tons of room for growth, as he’s another extremely projectable player for the FSU staff. Barrett stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 175 pounds. The frame is quite substantial for just a 15-year old.

Barrett is a two-way player bringing power from both the mound and the box. The righty has topped out at 88 MPH off the mound and shows potential for plus power in the RH batter’s box. The lanky righty works well through the ball in the box to get power up the middle of the field. In the field, Barrett has played all over the place, but seems to be a long-term fit at one of the corners of the INF. The sophomore has performed well at all the events he has been to recently, notching All-Tournament awards at 4 PG events in the last year. Barrett will be exciting to follow as he matures physically into his frame.

As for FSU’s coaching staff, you can’t ask for much more right now. Mike Martin Jr., Jim Bellanger, Mike Metcalf, and Tyler Holt, I am here to thank you and applaud you. The momentum FSU has built on the recruiting trail cannot be touched right now. FSU will continue to focus on the 2022 and 2023 classes throughout the rest of fall ball, as most of the 2020 and 2021 classes are fulfilled. Now here’s a Q and A with your newest FSU commit, Ben Barrett.

Q: When and where did the staff first approach you?

They first talked to me after I threw a bullpen at tryouts for power baseball and that weekend I pitched in a power baseball scrimmage and they offered me right after.

Q: Did the staff offer you as just a pitcher or a two-way and which do you prefer more, pitching or hitting?

They offered me as a 2-way. I enjoy both a lot but I feel like I have more talent as a pitcher and I love pitching.

Q: What made you want to FSU and Mike Martin Jr.? Had FSU been a dream school for you growing up?

I really liked the pitching coach Jimmy Belanger and I really liked coach Martin Jr. and the energy of the program. FSU has always been my dream school.

Q: It seems like you are quite the utility player, which position do you think you fit best at?

I think I fit best a 3rd or 1st base.

Q: What do you think you need to work on the most before you get to college?

I think I need to get faster and stronger.
