Blackman bulking up for 2019 season

James Blackman’s weight has been a hot topic among Florida State fans since he signed with the Seminoles in 2017. The Belle Glade native was listed at just 163 pounds on his recruiting profile according to 247 sports despite his 6’5″ frame coming out of high school.

The redshirt sophomore has apparently been busy in the weight room since spring football ended and is now checking in at 195 pounds according to Florida State’s recently released media guide. That’s a 13 pound gain from the 182 pounds he was listed at to start spring camp and a total of 32 pounds gained since stepping foot on campus.

The good news doesn’t stop there for FSU fans wondering about the physical development of the roster. Several players have made noticeable gains from spring camp now. It would seem that strength and conditioning coach Irele Oderinde is earning his paycheck if these numbers are accurate.
