Jalen Hurts enters name in transfer portal

According to Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News, Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal.

There has been speculation that Hurts would likely seek a transfer after he officially lost his starting job to Tua Tagovailoa this past season. While his name entering the portal doesn’t guarantee he will leave Alabama, it seems likely that he will play elsewhere in the 2019 season.

Hurts has yet to announce a list of potential landing spots but Florida State is expected to be in the mix though they have an uphill battle based on betting odds released by MyBookie. The perceived leaders as of now appear to be TCU and Maryland. TCU makes sense as it is close to Hurts’ home town of Channel, Texas. Maryland recently hired Hurts’ offensive coordinator at Alabama, Mike Locksley.

Hurts is the definition of a dual-threat quarterback and would be a perfect fit for Kendal Briles’ offense. During two seasons as Alabama’s starter, Hurts accounted for 55 total touchdowns with 15 of them coming on the ground.

The former five-star prospect would also be a welcome addition to the locker room. Florida State would be bringing in a proven winner who has shown to be an outstanding teammate which this program needs right now as it looks to change the culture.

Should Hurts transfer, it is unclear if he would be a spring or summer enrollee at his new university. Hurts would have until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday night to enroll at Florida State to be able to participate in spring football camp.

UPDATE 1/11/19 9:50 a.m.

Taggart and Hurts have spoken about the possibility of the quarterback transferring to Florida State. Hurts is also considering Maryland, Miami, TCU, and Oklahoma.

Why on earth would one of the best QB’s in the country go to the 4th best team in Florida and choose FSU? I’ll give you a hint. He won’t.
