Championship Weekend: Viewing Schedule

So many great games, so many College Football Playoff implications.  Welcome to Championship weekend:

  • Pac12 Championship: #8 Colorado vs. #4 Washington

Where: Santa Clara, CA

When: Friday @ 7pm

Spread: Washington -8

Washington looks to secure their spot in the playoff by bolstering their resume with not only a conference championship, but also a win over another top 10 team.  Colorado, while not a perceived national powerhouse, is a very good football team.  This one should be fun.

  • Big12 Championship (practically): #10 Oklahoma St @ #9 Oklahoma

This game is what college football is all about:  an in-state rivalry to determine the the Big12 conference champion.  While this game might not yield a playoff birth, it will certainly be a fun one to watch, with passion radiating from both sides.

Where: Norman, OK

When: 12:30 pm

Spread: Oklahoma -11

  • SEC Championship: #1 Alabama vs. #15 Florida

Where: Atlanta, GA

When: 4:00 pm

Spread: Bama -24

Not sure Alabama really has much to play for Saturday night.  The Crimson Tide are the much better team and they will likely be in the College Football Playoff regardless of the score of the SEC Championship game.  You never know, Florida might be able to catch them sleeping and keep this one closer than people expect.  That being said, my bet is on Nick Saban having his squad ready to dominate — as always.

  • ACC Championship: #3 Clemson vs. #23 Virginia Tech

Where: Orlando, FL

When: 8:00 pm

Spread: Clemson -10

Justin Fuente has done an outstanding job in his first season as head coach in Blacksburg.  However, at this juncture, I simply don’t think Virginia Tech has the roster to compete with a Clemson team that was firing on all cylinders last weekend.  And who knows, a huge game from Deshaun Watson might give him a shot at the Hesiman trophy, or at least his second invite in as many years.  By the way Florida State fans, if you want to go to the Orange Bowl, you need Clemson to win this game.

  • Big10 Championship: #6 Wisconsin vs. #7 Penn State

Where: Indianapolis, IN

When: 8:00 pm

Spread: Wisconsin -3

This is perhaps the most interesting game of the weekend.  The Big10 has been outstanding this year — so good in fact that 4 teams believe they have a chance at getting into the College Football Playoff: #2 Ohio State, #5 Michigan, #6 Wisconsin, and #7 Penn State.  There’s no telling what the committee will do.  However, a dominant performance in the Big10 Championship — with a little help from a Clemson and/or Washington loss — just might land a second Big10 team in the College Football Playoff.
