Florida Athlete Rocket Sanders Talks Top 5, FSU

Rockledge, FL standout athlete Raheim “Rocket” Sanders is one of the top-tier athletes in the nation for the 2021 class. With over 30 offers in hand, Sanders made the announcement Tuesday that he was trimming his list to a top 5. We caught up with him to talk about the list, and to talk about Florida State’s addition to the list.

There aren’t many athletes like Rocket Sanders in the 2021 recruiting class. At 6’2″, 210 pounds Sanders also has plus speed as he runs 11.31 in the 100 meters. His athleticism has schools looking at him on both sides of the ball while predominantly being an offensive player.

On Tuesday Sanders made the announcement that he had trimmed his list to a top 5 of Arkansas, Florida State, Missouri, Oklahoma and South Carolina.

“I felt like it was the time to do it,” Sanders said. “I can see myself at these schools; there are a few more on this list that I can see myself at, but the head coaches at these schools and the relationships stand out. I feel like I can do something at these schools.”

Sanders says that each of these schools shares a lot of the same reasons why they made the list. He did hint that this list may not be final.

“I am not sure if it is a final list as there might be some changes to it,” Sanders said. “Not just the head coaches, but all the coaches, at these schools I chop it up with and I feel like they will take care of me and my family.”

Florida State has been a part of his recruitment throughout and it is the only school he has visited before the COVID-19 lockdown. That, and the coaches, is why the Seminoles remain on the list of schools Sanders is considering.

“FSU is the only school I have visited and I talk with them on a regular basis,” said Sanders. “They want to get me in their offense as a wide receiver and running back and get me the ball. We talk about how I can help their offense. When I visited there they showed a lot of love for me. Also, Jashaun (Corbin) is there. We work out together every day.”

Rocket says that he acknowledges that recruits are committing at a record pace right now. For him, he won’t make the decision until he is 100% sure of what he wants to do.

“I am not sure about any visits yet so I don’t know about committing any time soon,” said Sanders. “I have thought about securing my spot somewhere but I don’t know for sure. I am meeting a lot of new people right now during this process, and it has allowed me the chance to see where their minds are at.”

All of the schools on his top 5 are looking at him on the offensive side of the ball while Oklahoma is looking at him at linebacker also.

Stay tuned as we follow Sanders’ recruitment and upcoming senior season.
