Florida State Fires Willie Taggart

In a move everyone saw coming, Florida State has cut ties with head coach Willie Taggart.

Barrett Sallee broke the news on Twitter, and the only surprise is that it came mid-season and they didn’t wait to do it until after the season.

Taggart ends his tenure coming off an embarrassing 27-10 loss to rival Miami, who had lost at home to Georgia Tech this season. His final record at Florida State is 9-12 in 21 games. The lack of improvement on both sides of the ball, as well as a lack of discipline, was ultimately what did Taggart in. Odell Haggins will serve as interim head coach for the rest of the season.

Athletic Director David Coburn announced that he let the team know this afternoon, stating “…in the best interest of the University, we had no choice but to make a change.”

Fans had been vocal about their displeasure with Coach Taggart and the team’s performance, and were showing it with the lack of attendance. Credit the athletic department for admitting a mistake and moving on from is as soon as possible.

Let the search begin, and we will share more as it’s available throughout the week.
