Florida State Vs Boston College Game Preview

I decided to go away from the usual preview format for this game. The ‘Noles have dealt with the same problems all season, and they won’t be fixed in the next two games. With that said, there still is something to play for. While I personally think the bowl streak is extraneous and expendable, no player wants to be on the team that ‘breaks the steak’. I’m sure the coaching staff has been hammering home the message of the bowl streak this week in practice. The ‘Noles must win the final two games of the season to reach bowl eligibility, and both games will be played in Tallahassee. Florida State will be the underdogs in both of these games.

First up is a very good Boston College team. The Eagles are coming off a respectable home loss to Clemson, and look to get finish the season out strong. Last year, this Boston College squad blew out the ‘Noles on a Friday night in Boston. Florida State hasn’t gotten any better since then, while Boston College has improved. Eagles running back AJ Dillon is a workhorse and should be salivating for this game after the ‘Noles defense surrendered over 300 yards rushing to Notre Dame last Saturday. BC also has two stud defensive ends, who will get the unique chance to pass rush against offensive guards posing as offensive tackles. I expect a lot of pressure on Deondre Francois in the pocket, and I also expect Florida State’s offense to stall early.

Boston College will jump out to a two-possession lead and hold it the whole game. AJ Dillon will have over 200 yards rushing and the BC front seven will hold Florida State under 75 yards rushing. The ‘Noles will also turn the ball over a couple times, and the Eagles offense will have short fields work with all night. Of course, these are all predictions, but I picked BC to win this game in the preseason. The Eagles play a smash-mouth style of football that Florida State can’t counter or adapt to with the current personnel. I’ll take Boston College 34-16, and it won’t be as close as the score suggests. The bowl streak may be over but at least basketball season is here.
