Florida State vs Syracuse Game Preview

Game Introduction:

The Florida State Seminoles take on the Syracuse Orange in New York this Saturday at Noon. The ‘Noles look to build on the confidence gained last week in the first win of the Taggart Era. Syracuse looks to stay undefeated on the year, but it’s the biggest test so far on home turf against FSU. The game should be a good one inside the Carrier Dome, and there’s a lot on the line for both teams.

Taggart Era Off to a Slow Start

There wasn’t a person in the world who could have predicted the Taggart Era would start this way. In game one the offense couldn’t find the end zone, and in game two Florida State did not take the lead against Samford until the 4th quarter. If the ‘Noles want to beat Eric Dungey and the Syracuse Orange, they cannot afford to play like they did the first two games.

Francois Looks to Build Off Solid Second Game

While some may seem doom and gloom in this FSU team, there were a lot of bright spots last Saturday. One of them was Deondre Francois. Frenchy was 31 of 46 for 320 yards and three touchdowns. The biggest takeaway from Francois’ stat line last week is he threw zero interceptions. If 12 can keep that up, the ‘Noles should put up some points against an Orange defense that surrendered 42 to Western Michigan.

Burning Questions:

Will the ‘Noles Let the Freshmen Loose Again?

A lot of freshmen ‘Noles saw the field last week against Samford. Particularly the three freshmen cornerbacks AJ Lytton, Asante Samuel Jr., and Isaiah Bolden. All three of them played a big role in the win over Samford and could be a part of the game plan against the Orange. However, Syracuse has a lethal offense, led by the resilient quarterback Eric Dungey.

Can the FSU Defense Stop Eric Dungey?

Orange quarterback Eric Dungey is a gamer. He loves the big moments and has a knack for showing up in the big games. He’s also very tough, last year he played at Florida State on a broken foot. Dungey’s not the fastest in the world, but he loves to run if given the opportunity. He’s not afraid to drop a shoulder and could take advantage of a suspect Florida State linebacker core. It will be very interesting to see what Dungey comes up with on Saturday.

How can anyone predict what this Florida State team will do? No one saw the offensive stalemate against VT coming, and no one could have predicted Samford holding their own at Doak. Now the ‘Noles take to the road to face a stingy Syracuse team up north. While the Orange look sharper in year 3 under head coach Dino Babers, I believe Florida State has the edge in this game. With all the adversity this team has faced, the road to success is right around the corner. I think the offense gained a lot of confidence last week, and with a full week’s rest, the ‘Noles should come out firing against a young Syracuse secondary. I’ll take Florida State in a shootout, 41-38. Should be a close game, and hope everyone watching enjoys what should be a great game.
