FSU 2019 spring football: Day 2 live updates

Florida State will practice for the second time on a chilly Wednesday morning in Tallahassee. We’ll be tracking all of the live updates in this post as the practice progresses.

9:15 a.m. – Levonta Taylor has spent the early portion of the day at free safety.

9:27 a.m. – Deonte Sheffield is working with the running backs for the second practice in a row.

9:33 a.m. – Willie Taggart is watching the defensive backs while Kendal Briles and Ron Dugans have been coaching up the quarterbacks and wide receivers on routes.

9:37 a.m. – Senior OL Cole Minshew is present and dressed for practice though he’s just been observing so far.

9:44 a.m. – Cam McDonald seeing time with the wide receivers again.

9:47 a.m. – First group of wide receivers looks to be Tamorrion Terry, Keith Gavin, DJ Matthews, and Keyshawn Helton. Tre’Shaun Harrison has rotated in as well.

9:50 a.m. – Quarterback Nolan McDonald, running back Anthony Grant, and offensive lineman Dontae Lucas are all taking reps with the second team.

9:53 a.m. – QB Jordan Travis is now seeing snaps with the second team.

9:56 a.m. – Grant Glennon is getting the first chance to snap on kicks following Ken Burnham’s graduation.

10:14 a.m. – Kendal Briles has solely been handling the quarterbacks. Taggart hasn’t been with them today.

10:20 a.m. – Keith Gavin beats Asante Samuel on a fade route for a touchdown from James Blackman.

10:21 a.m. – Tre’Shaun Harrison breaks Raymond Woodie’s ankles with some nifty footwork on a slant for a touchdown.

10:23 a.m. – AJ Lytton has had some good reps here, locking down D’Marcus Adams and Warren Thompson

10:29 a.m. – James Blackman has been extremely sharp today. He was locked in and throwing darts during one-on-ones, barely missing any throws.

10:32 a.m. – Can’t say the same for the rest of FSU’s signal-callers. Nolan McDonald and Jordan Travis both look like works in progress.

10:44 a.m. – DJ Matthews has carved up the defense for most of the practice. He seems to be Blackman’s favorite target.

10: 48 a.m. – Hamsah Nasirildeen is still working with the linebackers while Levonta Taylor is at safety. Akeem Dent is also at safety.

10:54 a.m. – James Blackman is on fire. He’s hitting everything right now.

11:05 a.m. – Akeem Dent ends 7-on-7 with back to back interceptions. FSU is starting 11-on-11 now.

11:10 a.m. – The first team defense appears to be Janarius Robinson, Marvin Wilson, Cory Durden, Josh Kaindoh, DeCalon Brooks, Leonard Warner, Hamsah Nasirildeen, Asante Samuel, Stanford Samuels, Cyrus Fagan, and Levonta Taylor. They’ve stopped the offense three times in three tries.

11:18 a.m. – A rare miss for Blackman as Asante Samuel comes down with a pick.

11:21 a.m. – Another interception for the defense as Ontaria Wilson bobbles a pass from Nolan McDonald and cornerback Kyle Meyers comes down with it before taking it the distance for a pick-six.

11:24 a.m. – The team is stretching as practice starts to come to a close. The defense dominated in the 11-on-11 portion.
