FSU adds another piece via the Transfer Portal in Jammie Robinson

Mike Norvell and the Florida State coaching staff continue to hammer the transfer portal. Today news broke that the Seminoles coaching staff landed another former SEC defensive back in Jammie Robinson.

This offseason is setting up to be a crazy time now that NCAA players are allowed a one-time transfer that doesn’t impact their eligibility. Florida State made it known late during this season that they would look at the portal to increase the talent and depth on the roster.

Jammie Robinson, originally from Leesburg, GA, and comes to Florida State with three years of eligibility left over. Bringing in Robinson is a big upgrade for FSU as they’re looking to replace Hamsah Nasirildeen and Raymond Woodie. Robinson is an experienced defensive back that was named an All-SEC freshman and a 2nd team Freshman All-American. That strong season led to Jammie being named preseason All-SEC by Athlon Sports.

Robinson has shown he is a complete safety and that he truly enjoys contact. He displays versatility as he can also slide inside as a nickel corner. As a freshman, Jammie was third on South Carolina’s team in tackles with 62. Starting the season opener versus North Carolina, Jammie played in all 12 games for South Carolina. In three big games for the Gamecocks Robinson played his best – 15 tackles versus Texas A&M, 11 versus Clemson, and 9 versus Tennessee. 

Injuries and a lack of depth was a huge issue for FSU in 2020, especially in the secondary. Addressing defensive backs was a major need and FSU has done that with this class, especially with the portal. Former Arkansas corner Jarques McClellion brings starting experience and will compete this spring, and now Robinson adds versatility and another piece to the safety puzzle.
