FSU hires defensive analyst with South Florida ties

Florida State had an open spot on the off-field staff following defensive analyst Mike Treier being hired by Colorado State and it looks like they’ve found his replacement. According to his Twitter, the Seminoles have hired Brandon Harris Sr. as a defensive analyst.

Harris spent the 2019 season with FIU as a graduate assistant working with the defensive backs. It’s expected that he’ll work in the same capacity at FSU. He’ll also be an asset on the recruiting trail as the former Miami cornerback has deep south Florida ties.

His father, Tim “Ice” Harris, is the legendary former head coach at Booker T. Washington High School in Miami, winning three state championships with the Tornadoes. Harris has two brothers, Tim Harris Jr. and Treon Harris. Harris Jr. is the running backs coach at FIU and Treon Harris is a name that’s probably familiar to ‘Noles fans. He’s the former Gators quarterback and ended his collegiate career at Tennessee State as a wide receiver.

The whole Harris family has big connections to Booker T. Washington. Tim Harris Jr. also spent time as the head coach there and Brandon as well as Treon both played for the Tornadoes during high school.

Harris played for Miami from 2008-11, starting 32 games and recording 129 total tackles and three interceptions. He was selected in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans and also spent time with Tennessee and Miami. Harris briefly played in the CFL before beginning his coaching career.
