FSU lands another SEC transfer

The recruitment of Jarrion Jones since his decision to enter the Transfer Portal earlier this offseason has been one for the books. The 4-star prospect became the third player to enter the portal and leave Starkville in search of a new home.

Ole Miss seemed like the logical destination for Jones. Seminole legend Terrell Buckley, who recruited Jones to Mississippi State, was not retained by new Bulldogs head coach Mike Leach, was hired by Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss. His recruitment didn’t last long once entering the portal. After talking to Oregon, Ole Miss, and Florida State, Jones quickly made a decision and committed to Ole Miss, stirring up allegations of tampering. Regardless, he was headed to Oxford to be a Rebel. Or so we thought.

For one reason or another, Jones did not go through with his commitment to Ole Miss. In an unexpected change of events, Jones signed with Florida State and showed up to campus on Monday. Jones adds even more experience to an extremely deep room defensive back room and will help add to the competition. A true freshman in 2019, Jones finished his first season of college football with 12 total tackles, 2 pass deflections, and a fumble recovery in eight appearances. He’ll likely try to acquire a waiver for immediate eligibility.

Amazing, Jones becomes the ninth transfer that the Seminoles have added this offseason under new head coach Mike Norvell. With 25 high school/JUCO signees in the fold, FSU is set to add at least 34 new faces to the roster in 2020-21. 34 out of 85 total scholarship players means 40% of the roster will be newcomers.
