FSU Offers 2022 Louisiana CB Laterrance Welch

Louisiana is looking like it will be one of the country’s top producing states for recruits in 2022. One of the best in the state is cornerback Laterrance Welch from Lafayette-Acadiana. Florida State recently offered Welch, joining an elite list of programs that have shown interest early in the process. We caught up with him to talk about the FSU offer and to see how his recruitment is going right now.

If you’ve followed recruiting for a long time you know that when a recruit emerges on to the national scene before his time comes, you know you’ll usually see the nation’s elite programs already chasing after that recruit. That is the case with corner Laterrance Welch. Seventeen schools have offered and many more offers are soon to come.

“It is exciting right now and it has happened so quickly,” Welch said about his recruitment. “Over the past few weeks really. I posted my highlights on Twitter and things blew up. Coaches starting reaching out to my coach telling me to call. Schools like Alabama, Georgia, FSU, Florida, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Miami have offered me already.”

Coach Woodson has been front and center with defensive back recruiting since he arrived this offseason. Laterrance says that the two are off to a good start with their relationship.

“We had a great talk,” Welch said, “and it was some good stuff. Some of the best cornerbacks have come from that school. We’ve been talking about our families during this quarantine and they want me to visit when I can. He said that he followed me on Twitter and has talked to my high school coach about me a lot. He said he likes my length and that I am a baller.”

Welch is a corner that has a nose for the ball. As a sophomore, he had an impressive 24 pass break-ups to go along with 5 interceptions.

“I am patient and aggressive and I have good ball skills,” said Welch. “We play man-to-man and some cover 2 so I feel that I can play in any scheme.”

Look for Welch to gain more offers as he has a long time before a decision needs to be made. Welch knows that and plans on taking his time.

“I am going to be patient with this since I have 2 years left,” Welch said. “Every school is the same right now. I would like to see schools like FSU, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee – really as many as I can to get a feel for them. My focus right now is winning two more state championships for my school.”

Stay tuned as we will track Laterramce’s recruitment and upcoming junior season.
