FSU projected to play in-state school in Gasparilla Bowl
- Updated: November 21, 2019
With Florida State officially bowl-bound, there’s been a lot of buzz over where the Seminoles could end up playing in the postseason. Earlier this week, we published a piece on some potential bowl destinations but new projections are hitting the shelves every day as we get closer and closer to bowl season.
On Wednesday, Yahoo Sports’ Nick Bromberg released a new set of bowl predictions and I think ‘Noles fans would love this matchup. Florida State-UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl on Dec. 23, a nice taste of football before Christmas. If this rings true, it would be just the second time these schools have ever met, the inaugural meeting being a 46-14 FSU victory in 1995.
One reason the Gasparilla Bowl makes sense for Florida State is that it’s being held in Tampa at Raymond James Stadium. The game would draw a lot of fans from within the state, Knights and Seminoles alike. For those at the bottom of Florida who can’t typically make it up to Tallahassee on game days, this is an exciting proposition.
After starting the 2019 season 3-0 and topping the rankings at No. 15, UCF has struggled a bit as the year went on and currently sits at 7-3. Still solid, but certainly a step back after going 13-0 and 12-1 in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
True freshman quarterback Dillon Gabriel has taken over at signal-caller following McKenzie Milton’s devastating knee injury last season and he’s been impressive. A Hawaii native like Milton, he has completed 175 of his 289 passes for 2,806 yards with 24 TD’s to 7 INTs.
What do you think, FSU fans? Two creative offenses going at it right before the holidays with bragging rights on the line? Count me in for this one.
