FSU Pushing Hard for LA DE Saivion Jones

Florida State is working hard to land some pass rushers in the 2021 class. Louisiana has become a focus for the new coaching staff at FSU, and they have targeted Saint James, LA standout Saivion Jones. We caught up with Jones to get the latest on his recruitment and to get his thoughts on FSU.

Standing 6’5” and 230 pounds, Saivion Jones is one of the better rush ends in the 2021 class. He is coming off of a stellar junior season that saw him accumulate 103 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 13 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. The high-motor athlete is a three-sport standout for St. James as he participates in basketball and track. All of this has caught the attention of schools from all over the nation as Jones is nearing 20 offers.

“Recruiting is going smoothly and there’s been no real change lately,” said Jones. “I’ve been FaceTiming all of these schools, and I am getting a lot of mail. All of these schools are equal. I have had fairly strong talks with LSU, FSU and Baylor lately.”

Jones released a top 6 at the end of April, turning his focus on a small group of schools he and his family are strongly considering.

“LSU, FSU, Florida, Baylor, Texas A&M and Mississippi State made that list because relationships are very important to me,” explained Jones. “I could still make some changes but I don’t know of any offers that would (change the list). Staying home is a factor, and it would be hard to turn down that chance.”

According to Saivion, FSU is recruiting him very hard. David Johnson has been his primary recruiter and the two have been able to hit it off. Mike Norvell, FSU’s head coach, has also been in touch with Jones.

“FSU is recruiting me very hard and I have a good relationship with Coach Yac,” said Jones. “He tells me there is something special about kids from Louisiana, and that there is a need for edge rushers there. Coach Norvell, I like him too, and we have a good relationship. I’ve been able to bond with the coaches so I am starting to learn more about the program.”

At this time Jones is in a wait and see mode due to the impact of coronavirus. Official visits are important so don’t look for a decision from him until those are completed.

“It is what it is right now so all I am able to do is work out and stay in shape,” said Jones. “I am going to wait and see what happens and I am going to take my officials. The best relationship and family atmosphere is where I will end up going.”

Stay tuned as we track Jones’ senior season, as well as any developments in his recruitment.
