FSU remains favorite over Boise State, Miami
- Updated: May 29, 2019
Florida State wasn’t a team that many people wanted to bet on in 2018 unless they were trying to burn through their pockets. The Seminoles had one of their most disastrous seasons in over 40 years while going 4-8 (8-15-2 since 2017) against the spread in Willie Taggart’s debut season. The head coach and his staff are trying to further the rebuild in 2019 behind a talented recruiting class and an influx of new coaches across the offense like Kendal Briles, Ron Dugans, and Randy Clements.
Those upgrades, along with an expected step-forward on the field, are beginning to make FSU a favorable option again in the betting world. When the opening lines were released back in March, the ‘Noles held a (-4.5) advantage over a Boise State and a (-1.5) advantage over Miami. Those numbers have shifted slightly in the latest update.
Some early CFB lines for @FSUFootball per @betonline_ag:
Aug. 31: FSU (-4.5) vs Boise State
Nov. 2: FSU (-1) vs. Miami— Matt Murschel (@osmattmurschel) May 29, 2019
Florida State’s advantage over Boise State is unchanged but they’ve fallen to just (-1) from (1.5) over Miami. Basically, Vegas themselves has no idea who to roll with in the annual rivalry between the ‘Noles and Canes. Expect this line to continue to shift up until these two teams actually meet on the field.
FSU has lost the past two meetings with Miami after defeating the Hurricanes seven straight times from 2010-16.
UPDATE 5/30: More betting lines released for FSU’s games against Clemson, Syracuse, and Florida via Golden Nugget in Vegas.
Oct. 12: FSU (+25) @ Clemson
Oct. 26: FSU (+1.5) vs. Syracuse
Nov. 30: FSU (+14) @ Florida
The ‘Noles were pounded by all three of the above teams in 2018, it only makes sense that they’d be the underdog on the opening lines.
