FSU seemingly getting closer to landing Anthony Edwards

While most of the country was busy watching Clemson dismantle Alabama in the national championship, one of the top basketball prospects in the 2019 class went live on Instagram. Five-star guard Anthony Edwards seated with his trainer in his car smiled before saying, “I’m committing to Florida State. Go ‘Noles from now on man. Coach Ham I’m coming, coach C.Y. (assistant Charlton Young) I’m coming.”

Later during the live video, after being asked by a fan where he would play at the next level, Edwards responded, “I just told you where I am going to college but y’all don’t want to listen.”

So what just happened here? Did the No. 4 prospect in the 2019 class really just commit to FSU on a random Instagram live?

247 Basketball Recruiting analyst Evan Daniels says it was just a joke. Or at least his sources do.

At this point, it’s uncertain if Edwards’ mind is made up but it seemed like it was on Instagram. The elite scorer reclassified from the 2020 class so that he could play college basketball next season. Before his reclassification, Florida State was considered as the favorite in his recruitment and that’s continued to be the consensus up to this point.

Obviously, a lot could change before the signing period begins on April 17. Edwards is still considering some of the top schools in the country with Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina, and Georgia rounding out his top five. He has stated that he plans to take visits before making a final decision. However, plans change, Edwards’ relationship runs deep with the Seminoles coaching staff and he may be closer to making his choice public sooner rather than later.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound guard would instantly become the best scorer on FSU’s roster. He would fit in perfectly among Trent Forrest and MJ Walker in the backcourt. Edwards’ mix of scoring and relentless defense is the perfect match for Leonard Hamilton‘s system in Tallahassee. He’d be the crown jewel of a 2019 class that ranks among the best in the nation.

Edwards would become the highest-rated prospect to sign with Florida State in program history.
