FSU to open fall campaign at the start of August

With the beginning of August less than three weeks away, football is finally almost back on the menu and we’ll get our first taste of Florida State on Aug. 31 in Jacksonville against Boise State. Prior to that, the Seminoles will go through fall camp with the hope of continuing to establish an identity on offense and defense. A source confirms to NoleGameday that prior reports were correct and that the football team will hold their first practice on Friday, August 2nd.

Like last year, we can expect FSU’s coaching staff and players to stay together on campus in the dorms. The key here is for the team to build its relationships amongst each other and to really develop the mentality to play for one another. With leaders like James Blackman and Marvin Wilson, it’s hard to imagine this won’t be one of the closest teams we’ve seen in recent years.

On Thursday, August 1st, the ‘Noles will begin moving into the dorms and they’ll also hold a few meetings on the day prior to the opening of fall camp. Then, they jump right into the fray.

One unnamed player on the defensive side of the ball told us he feels like he’s, “the strongest he’s ever been.” And mentioned that a lot of other guys had said the same thing. The ‘Noles will need to be at their physical peak going into camp because they’ll start off Friday with a conditioning test that’s set to begin at six in the morning. We’ll know soon enough if the work in the offseason has paid off.

Similar to past seasons, Florida State will spend the first few days of practices with the veterans and the freshman apart. Prior to the first practice, the Seminoles will hold separate meetings for the freshman and veterans depending on what side of the ball they play on. After that, it’s out to the practice fields for day one.

Usually, some of the freshmen that stand out early will be moved over into the veteran practices. Guys like Dontae Lucas, Jaleel McRae, and Akeem Dent are early candidates who we expect to practice with the veterans shortly into fall camp.

All in all, it’ll be the perfect stage for the coaching staff to finetune its team before the revenge tour begins.
