GA DL Looking to Visit FSU Soon

While the focus of Florida State fans is rebuilding the offensive line, FSU is looking to shore up talent on the defensive line as well. One of the early targets for the 2021 class that has emerged for the Seminoles is Georgia- Elbert County standout Marlin Dean. We caught up Marlin to get the latest and to see what makes FSU an option for him.

Talented and big framed athletes tend to become highly recruited players when coming out of high school, and it looks like Marlin Dean will follow that same path. Recruiting has come on fast for the 6-foot-, 265-pound defensive lineman with blue blood powers showing interest.

“Recruiting came fast for me, now schools like Colorado, West Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, East Carolina and FSU have offered,” Dean said. “I’ve heard from North Carolina, Florida, and Alabama but nothing yet. Clemson, too. I do like how Florida and Alabama develop players, their academics, and all. I do have a top 3 or 4 right now with FSU, West Virginia, Georgia and South Carolina. If Florida and Alabama offer they will slide in on the list.”

Florida State is recruiting Dean as a defensive lineman with a focus at end. Dean says he’s been forming a relationship with Coach Atkins and they are working on getting him to visit the school soon.

“East Carolina and Colorado have offered me for offense while the others are recruiting me for defense,” said Dean. “I feel like I can explode off of the ball, I have long arms and I use my hands well. I’d say I prefer defense.”

“Coach Atkins is my contact at FSU,” Dean continued. “We’ve had contact on the phone. They want me to visit them as soon as possible. I want to (visit) to see if I’d be able to fit there and see if I’d be able to contribute. I want to see how many seniors they have, and their academics. I want to major in Business Entrepreneurship. School and academics are a big part of it and that is something that got my attention about them.”

Dean has an idea when he will visit and talks more about the ‘Noles.

“I do like FSU’s academics and I know some players there,” Dean said. “I like how Coach Atkins keeps it real. You need that and you need that to work. I am planning on visiting March 7th; it’s my goal to get there.”

Dean is a big body end with the ability to slide inside on some plays. He says he may grow more but it should not impact his overall game.

“I am a defensive end and I prefer the 4-4,” Dean said, “but I can play in defense. “I’ve gravitated towards that. I work hard, I am explosive and I have a big body. I may grow a couple more inches. My great-grandpa was 7 feet tall. I am quick though and I have light feet. I am a playmaker.”

Marlin is young for his class and has no plans to make a decision before the start of his senior season. He plans on going through the process to make sure he makes the right decision. Until then stay tuned as we track his last year in high school and his recruitment.
