Luke Altmyer Journal 4: Season Kick Off and FSU vs GT

In this installment of Luke Altmyer’s senior journal he talks about the start of his season, and among other things his thoughts on Florida State and its first game of 2020.

Luke Altmyer is allowing us an inside look at his senior season. From preparing for his last season in high school, to recruiting, Luke has kept us up to date on the current events going on so far. Here is his latest.

I saw that my boy Jarrion Jones got named a starter for FSU. That’s great. Mississippi guys are built differently. We have a chip on our shoulder wherever we go. We’re mud boys. It’s how we operate. I know I am going to bring that Cam Akers mentality. Excellence is the standard. Nobody is above or below it. As a QB, and the leader, there’s so much passion in me.

Our season has been going well so far. Preparation is huge, whether it’s film or on the practice field during game week. Having a purpose in everything you do is key and not just going through the motions preparing for an opponent. Those are the things we’ve done well getting ready for the season.

My first play, the 70-yard touchdown run, was a designed call. We knew they would give us a 4-1 box if we went to an empty set, so we thought a QB draw would work great which it did. I thought I played a great game the first week, it was one of my best halves of football from my team in a long time. I think I could’ve had 500 or 600 yards of offense if I stayed in but the cramps kept me out.

Our second game was a 24-14 win in a rainy, grit and grind game. That team had the best front 7 we will play. Ty Cooper is an SEC defensive end. I ran for a 50-yard touchdown that first drive. I threw two touchdowns but one got called back. It was a good win. This past week was a lot of fun. I took what the defense gave us. I threw for four touchdowns through the air and we won 35-14.

Coming into the season I wanted to see energy and effort the first game for FSU. Getting that “dawg” mentality back is what I wanted to see the most. FSU just has to execute better. Coach Norvell is intense. Jarrian told me he thinks Coach is a genius. I have a lot of faith he will get it fixed. FSU just needs to keep a consistent rhythm like our first drive. But it is not fair to freak out right now. No spring, the coronavirus, new head coach and coaches. Let’s see how we respond and bounce back.

I can’t wait to get on campus. I’ve heard how great the gameday atmosphere is and I want to be a part of it.

I just feel I am sharp right now and constantly getting better. I am working on something each day. I’m locked in and passionate about my craft and the game.

That’s about it for now. Thanks so much for letting me do this and sharing this season with me. Go ‘Noles!
