Mfiondu Kabengele declaring for NBA Draft

Well, Florida State fans have been wondering about the timeline for Mfiondu Kabengele’s decision to enter the NBA Draft or return to Tallahassee for another year. On a random Tuesday evening the day after the national championship, we got that answer. The Seminoles leading scorer from 2018-19 will sign with an agent and enter the 2019 NBA Draft.

This is a huge blow to the program because it seemed like a lot of people were beginning to expect he’d be back for at least one more season, especially with his sporadic appearances on mock drafts to this point. Now that he’s fully in play to be drafted, I’d expect he’ll start to get a lot more love on draft boards. However, now we’ll never know what his stock could’ve been if he would’ve been a full-time starter for Leonard Hamilton and his staff.

FSU is now losing at least six players this offseason with the graduations of Terance Mann, Phil Cofer, Christ Koumadje, PJ Savoy, and David Nichols coupled with Kabengele’s departure to the NBA. The ‘Noles currently have four players signed in the 2019 class and one player committed. They’ll have at least one more available scholarship with Kabengele officially moving on. The redshirt sophomore improved immensely over his time in garnet and gold, averaging a career-high 13.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 50.2% from the field, 36.9% from deep, and 76.1% from the line.

The staff at NoleGameday wishes him the best as he moves on to the next step in his career.
