NoleGameday Staff Score Predictions: FSU at Louisville

Florida State made a clear breakthrough last week as the Seminoles took down No. 5 North Carolina in a valiant effort at home. Now, Mike Norvell’s team will need to show they can be consistent as they travel to Louisville, looking for their first road win this season. The Cardinals enter this game on a four-game losing streak with a record of 1-4 after losing a close contest to Notre Dame. Regardless of their record, they still have capable weapons on offense like Tutu Atwell, Javion Hawkins, and Marshon Ford that will test FSU.

The defense finally stepped up and showed signs of why they were expected to be elite this season against North Carolina, sacking Sam Howell four times and forcing eight tackles for loss. Time and time again, Adam Fuller’s unit came up big on third and fourth down to hold off the Tar Heels to help secure the victory. They’ll need to have the same type of performance this weekend to limit a Louisville team that wants to pound the ball on the ground to open up its offense.

On offense, the Seminoles will look to Jordan Travis and their running backs again to generate success against a Cardinals defense that has been suspect against the run to this point of the season. Another key will be taking care of the ball, Louisville is tied for No. 72 in the country with a -8 turnover differential after losing six fumbles and throwing five interceptions.

Our staff provides their predictions and analysis for Florida State at Louisville below.

I think Florida State will continue to build on its performance from last week. This is an opportunity for the offense to net a couple big plays against a Louisville defense that has given up 12 30+ yard plays in five games. Jordan Travis and La’Damian should continue to lead the rushing attack with sprinkles of Jashaun Corbin and Lawrance Toafili as well. Ontaria Wilson and Keyshawn Helton are primed for solid games on the outside.

Defensively, I’m interested to see how Adam Fuller tries to limit Javian Hawkins, one of the top running backs in the country. It’s worth noting that Louisville has had a drop off in offensive line play following Mekhi Becton’s move to the NFL as they’ve allowed 14 sacks.
