NoleGameday Staff Score Predictions: FSU vs Louisville

Well, we’re a quarter of the way through the 2019 season and Florida State doesn’t have much to show for it. The Seminoles have won just one game while letting two others slip away. However, there are a few positives. Boise State, UL-Monroe (I know, I know), and Virginia are all good teams. All three of these programs will more likely than not go bowling in 2019, with Virginia and Boise State having the opportunity to finish with double-digit wins.

Louisville, on the other hand, is not a good football team. The Cardinals are going to struggle this year in the transition from Bobby Petrino to Scott Satterfield. Plus, they may be without their starting quarterback, Jawon Pass, on Saturday. Pass has been dealing with a lower extremity injury and his game-status is currently questionable. Louisville loves to run the football and that trend is expected to continue Saturday in Tallahassee.

FSU will be looking to its front-seven to finally step up and have success. With Leonard Warner and Jaiden Lars-Woodbey essentially switching positions, we’ll get to see if the moves pay off soon enough. The ‘Noles also need more out of senior Dontavious Jackson, who has been nothing but disappointing in 2019, if they are going to have a chance to stop the Cardinals on the ground.

Our staff gives their score predictions for week three below.

Florida State has no other option but to win this game if the ‘Noles are going to salvage the 2019 season. Louisville is an average team and if FSU wants to take the next step, it has to be able to handle teams that don’t have similar talent levels.

The Cardinals are going to be focused on pounding the rock. If Florida State’s defense can slow them down, I think the Seminoles come out on top of this one by double digits. We know the offense is going to be productive.

Look, I get why people are still frustrated with this team. A close loss to Virginia shouldn’t be acceptable by typical Florida State standards. Unfortunately, we aren’t living in a typical Florida State era and even if people don’t want to admit it, the team took a huge step forward last weekend.

I think they start putting things together and begin to right the ship this weekend. Louisville is in very good shape moving forward but their rebuild is worse than what Willie Taggart walked into. Look for the offense to go off while the defense shows slight improvement.

After last weeks heartbreaker in Charlottesville, this game is actually quite tough to predict. This team has shown that they will quit in the past and they very well could do just that on Saturday. I believe this game being in Tallahassee keeps the team from quitting in front of their home fans and pulling out a close win.

Jawon Pass, even though returning from injury, will have success extending plays and that is what keeps this game close. I expect Cam Akers to have a big game and carry the ‘Noles to victory.

Score prediction: FSU 38, UL 31

2019 record: 1-2

Well, I tried being positive going into last week predicting a win, but the team did show a ton of improvement. Another week of Jim Leavitt having input in the defense, Woodbey is no longer at inside linebacker…. I have some faith again and I don’t know why. I guess I will continue to stay positive.

I think the offense bounces back in a big way after a let down against Virginia. James Blackman is going to want to prove last week was just a fluke

Score prediction: FSU 31, UL 27

2019 record: 1-2
