Rising 2023 DE Zakaih Saez takes in second spring scrimmage

2023 defensive end Zakaih Saez saw his recruitment start to heat up in March as he earned his first six scholarship offers, including one from Florida State a few weeks ago. Saez and his family traveled up to Tallahassee over the weekend and were in attendance at the Seminoles’ second scrimmage of the spring.

“We really like Florida State,” Saez said. “It’s one of my favorite schools. The coaching staff is hard on me, like with recruiting. I just really like the school.”

The defense shined on Saturday, especially the pass-rush, which racked up a ton of sacks and generated consistent pressure throughout the scrimmage. The intensity impressed Saez and transfer defensive end Jermaine Johnson was one player who stood out to him.

“I loved the energy,” Saez said. “The way they came off of the line, the physicality, all of it. That No. 11 [Jermaine Johnson], I saw him, I liked what I saw from him.”

With the summer approaching, the Florida native is preparing for his upcoming transfer to St. Thomas Aquinas High School, one of the powerhouse programs in the state that produces talent year in and year out. He’s excited about taking advantage of the opportunity because of how it’ll prepare him for the college level.

“It’s a great opportunity,” Saez said. “It’s gonna help me in life, getting bigger, faster, stronger. School-wise too.”

His main contacts on the Florida State staff so far have been with defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and defensive ends coach John Papuchis. They’ve begun to build a relationship over the last month. Saez also knows current Seminoles Akeem Dent and Bryan Robinson.

With his recruitment just getting started, no one is standing out just yet to Saez. Along with the ‘Noles, he holds offers from Mississippi State, Syracuse, Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Florida Atlantic.

“Honestly,” Saez said. “I’ve got my eyes on all of the schools. I don’t really know yet, I need to give it some time.”

Saez recorded 20 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks in four games as a sophomore. He probably won’t return to FSU for the spring game on April 10 due to his travel basketball schedule.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound defensive end is currently unranked according to 247Sports. We expect that to change in the near future.
