Sources: FSU, Nike exploring changes to uniform in near future

Well, it might finally be time to tweet #EverybodyFocused. Multiple sources close to the Florida State Athletics program have shared with NoleGameday that the Seminoles are exploring possible changes to the football team’s uniforms. Those changes have the possibility to be implemented as soon as the upcoming 2019 season.

FSU has received a large amount of backlash dating back to 2014 when they shifted from the old uniforms to what they wear now. A lot of fans aren’t happy with the look, especially when it’s pretty much matching with Boston College, and they’ve been extremely vocal about it across social media. Basically, since their inception, the ‘Noles current jerseys haven’t been much of a hit. The discussions between Florida State and Nike are still in the early stages but there’s been a push behind the scenes to try and get this done as quickly as possible.

Now might be the perfect time for a change. The Seminoles signed a 10-year contract extension with Nike in 2013 but typically they’ve made amendments to that contract every four to six years. Recently, those contract amendments occurred in 2005, 2011, and 2013. The deal is currently set to provide FSU with $1.5 million in base contributions and $3 million in supplied product over its final four years.

As of now, the program is only looking at possible changes to the football team’s uniforms but that could always change as we move forward. It makes financial sense for both sides to push for a change that would allow them to both appease the fanbase and sell new merchandise.

Should have stayed with the 2013 Natty uniforms. White numerals on garnet jersey.

I clearly recall the excitement prior to last season related to single digit jersey numbers and Oregon-style jerseys. I also recall those changes did nothing to improve our on-field performance nor did it generate any fear in the minds of opponents. I’m much more interested in seeing our players, in any style uniform or number, knocking down opponents, blocking, tackling and catching passes. Let’s stay focused on what’s important…this isn’t a fashion show after all.

    As an FSU grad (1983)
I’m all for returning to the
classic FSU football jersey and gold pants
of the Charlie Ward and Deion Sanders
    era. Look them up online.
They were clean, and most importantly
    It WAS the coolest
    uniform in college football.
Now it looks somewhat like a costume.
Can’t the symbolism be more subtle?
    Haven’t bought
a single FSU item since they went to
that DARK MUDDY RED. Looks dreary.
YES it’s technically garnet, but does the color
have to be that awful brownish red.
We Are FSU … NOT Boston College.
    Actually the current simple
    PRACTICE jerseys are
pretty nice and fresh, and clean looking.
    Would not object to those
    being actual game jerseys.
When you look good you feel good.
How great would the players feel coming
out of the tunnel in those classic uniforms.
Just ask them … Classic Ward, Sanders uniforms,
    or the current COSTUMES.
    We want our UNIFORMS back.

This would be awesome to get our old uniforms back. I just wish we could get our old logos on both sides of the pants like we used to have them. It would be refreshing to see our guys playing in true Garnet and Gold like 2013 and before. There was nothing worse than wearing non-traditional FSU gear and playing poorly at that. We need our SPIRIT back, if Coach Taggart succeeds in getting our uniforms and logo back, I am good with giving him his 5 year window to get things back to normal. The uniforms are a great step in the right direction.

FSU absolutely needs to brighten up the colors by a shade or two. Dark maroon & beige is hideous is simply awful. Heck, we’re more maroon than BC is as of late. And hold the apparel manufacturers accountable for consistency. A deep red with a touch of purple please. Not brownish freaking maroon. Gross.

I’m 1000000% for the change. I bleed garnet and gold and will always be behind my team no matter how ugly we look. But we have got to have the ugliest ass uniforms in college football. Our old ones were soooooo much better

Mke the numbers white, as well as the design work on the jersey, and I’m good. The helmet and pants are the only gold features, aside from possibly a gold outline on the numbers. Brightening up the garnet wouldn’t hurt either.

As a life long Seminoles fan and alumni ‘08, it really didn’t sit well with me that the logo changed and our uniforms too. After attending and witnessing our 3rd National Championship first hand, it was a slap in the face that Florida State decided to change the logo and uniforms as a marketing ploy to generate more revenue and to use the excuse that Nike said it was too hard to use our logos. If that was the case we should of signed a deal with Jordan brand or any other reputable company that could easily use our old logo in today’s age 2019. My favorite uniform of all time would the 2009 alternate pro combat jersey Nike created. Would even like to see more alternate jerseys to be honest. The blue Basketball Aztec Jerseys are one option. Still have a few years left on my car’s plate that uses the old logo and colors. Refused to use the new one and was asked to on my truck last year when it was discontinued. Gave my feedback there and was shocked there was nothing to mention Bobby Bowden. The legend that put FSU on the map should be glorified in some form or fashion.

Absolutely go back to the classic looks. Old logo and original school colors, not wine and beige! Look up college vault FSU for reference. I’m ok with them still using metallic gold on the uni’s but otherwise that modern gold has to go. Looks so washed out and reminds me of baby puke. Too many teams wear metallic gold now. We look exactly like BC and every other ACC team uses the same basic shade of gold, except Pitt. They wised up and went back to their classic look. FSU needs to do the same.
