Swinney talks FSU in press conference

Clemson struggled in its last game, barely surviving 21-20 in Chapel Hill after North Carolina failed on a two-point with less than two minutes to play. The Tigers offense was held under 400 yards in the game while Trevor Lawrence threw just one touchdown pass. On defense, CU surrendered a 40-yard TD while trailing for almost the entire first half. No doubt, it was an extremely sloppy game for the defending national champions with a BYE week looming over their heads.

You can expect them to be at their best in week seven with Florida State coming to town. This is a game that Dabo Swinney has circled every year since he became Clemson’s head coach back in 2008. The Tigers always get up to play the Seminoles, even if in recent memory this rivalry has been dominant in CU’s favor. Swinney is 6-5 in his career against FSU. The ‘Noles won three straight games from 2012-14 but since then, Clemson has come out on top in the last four matchups.

The 12-year head coach got a chance to talk Florida State during his press conference on Tuesday and he had a lot of praise to throw the Seminoles’ way.

“Florida State is the most talented team we play,” Swinney said. “All you have to do is check the recruiting rankings. I think they’ve out recruited five out of the last seven years or more. Easily the most talented team we play to this point.”

“Cam Akers, everything goes through him. He’s a workhorse. He’s physical, he’s a very committed runner.”

“We’ve got to get back to getting our hands on the ball, creating some turnovers and taking care of it offensively. That’ll be a huge stat in this game. If we win the turnover margin, we win the game and vice versa.”

Make sure to listen from the 2:25 to eight-minute mark for Swinney’s full thoughts on FSU.
