WATCH: Derwin James doesn’t take time off

Former Florida State star Derwin James had his dream realized when he was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers with the No. 17 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. James was projected to be an early selection in the First-Round but instead, he slipped down the boards slightly and arguably landed in a perfect situation.

The Haynes City native joins an elite defense at all three levels in Los Angeles. Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram man the front line, Denzil Perryman’s in the middle, and Casey Hayward’s on the outside.

However, just because one dream has been achieved doesn’t mean James has stopped working. The rookie safety was excellent during the Chargers offseason program and he’s continuing to grind on his own. James worked on his backpedaling and footwork on a beach that was packed with people.

If he keeps working like this, the sky is truly the limit for James, but FSU already knew that.
