Week 8 Bold Prediction: ‘Noles Defense Stifles Demon Deacons

Logan Stanford/Icon Sportswire

Bold Prediction:
Florida State’s defense will hold Wake Forest to a season-low in points scored.

Why it’s bold:
Wake Forest’s offense has been electric this year averaging approximately 40 points a game, while Florida State’s defense has been extremely poor so far allowing opponents to average 32 points per game.

Why I believe it will happen:
After last week’s beat down in Clemson, I believe the ‘Noles will bounce back with an impressive display on defense to revitalize the 2019 season. Wake Forest operates at a blistering pace, which is one of the top tempos in the nation. Florida State is accustomed to playing against tempo as they see Kendal Briles’ offense in practice daily. The main factor that will lead to success for the ‘Noles is the defensive line. Marvin Wilson, Corey Durden, & Robert Cooper have been the few bright spots on defense and they continue to impress up front. Wake Forest loves to hold the mesh point as long as possible and one of the main ways to counteract that is with penetration up front. Janarius Robinson has also had somewhat of a renaissance this year with substantially improving his ability to stop the run and rush the passer.

If the front three and Janarius Robinson can wreak havoc, it could lead to a long night for the Demon Deacons.
Another key factor as to why Florida State will limit Wake’s potent offense is someone not even on the Seminole roster, Mother Nature herself. The weather in Winston Salem for Saturday evening is looking to be pretty nasty as heavy rain and cold temperatures are projected. Poor weather will affect the ‘Nole offense as well, but Florida State has the advantage of possessing more athletes on the field that can break the game open with a single play.
Saturday evening in Winston Salem will be the turning point of the season.

If Florida State is able to pull out a win, there is a sure path to winning 8 games this year. If not, the last half of the season could be as rough to watch as the first.
